Stairlift Rental
Stairlift Rental for just £50 per month
Not everybody needs a stairlift forever. Sometimes it is for a few months after an operation, or while someone recovers, or while a family decides what happens next. Buying one outright in that situation is a lot of money for something you may not need by Christmas.
So we rent them. £349 to install, £50 a month after that, both excluding VAT, with a minimum hire of six months. When you no longer need it we come and take it away and that is the end of it.
What renting includes:
- Delivery and installation by our own engineers
- Servicing and breakdown cover for as long as you rent it
- Removal at the end, with no making good needed
- A phone number that reaches a person, 24 hours a day
- No structural modifications required
There is nothing else to pay. No call out charges while you are renting and no charge for taking it away.
What it costs
Installation is £349 as a one off. Rental is £50 a month, and the first monthly payment is taken one month after installation. Both figures exclude VAT.
Most of our customers pay no VAT at all. Stairlifts supplied to someone who is chronically sick or disabled are zero rated, which covers the majority of people renting one. There is a short declaration form to sign and we will send it to you.
How it works
First we need one measurement, taken down the slope of your stairs from the top nose to the floor, because the rail is cut to fit. You can measure it yourself using our online quote form, or we can come and do it for you. A home survey is £25, currently half price.
Once the measurement is confirmed we book a fitting date. Installation usually takes a couple of hours. The stairlift fixes to the stair treads rather than the wall, so there is no structural work, no drilling into plaster and nothing to repair afterwards. Your stairs go back to normal when it comes out.
Straight staircases only
We rent straight stairlifts, meaning staircases that run in one flight with no bends, turns or half landings. Curved staircases need a rail made to measure for that particular staircase, which is not something we rent out.
If your staircase curves, we can still help with servicing and repairs to an existing stairlift of any make. Give us a ring and we will tell you honestly what your options are.
Where we rent stairlifts
Across Devon and Cornwall from our base in Plymouth. Plympton, Plymstock, Ivybridge, Saltash, Torpoint, Tavistock, Liskeard, Newton Abbot, Torquay, Paignton, Totnes, Exeter and the areas around them.
Rent or buy?
Rent if you need it for a defined period, if the situation might change, or if you would rather not spend a large sum up front. Buy if you know it is permanent, since a refurbished straight stairlift starts at £1,349 excluding VAT and works out cheaper beyond about two years.
We will tell you which makes more sense for you. We would rather sell you the right thing once than the wrong thing twice.

Our quote form gives you a price in a couple of minutes, or ring 01752 781 681 if you would rather talk it through. Nothing is charged online and no payment is taken until we have spoken to you.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does it cost to rent a stairlift?
AMS Group rent straight stairlifts for £349 installation plus £50 a month, excluding VAT, with a minimum hire of six months. Servicing, breakdown cover and removal are included. Most customers pay no VAT because stairlifts for someone chronically sick or disabled are zero rated.
What is the minimum rental period for a stairlift?
Six months. After that you can keep it for as long as you need it and give us a call when you want it removed.
Is stairlift servicing included in the rental?
Yes. Servicing and breakdown cover are included for as long as you rent the stairlift, and there are no call out charges during the rental.
Can I rent a curved stairlift?
No. We rent straight stairlifts only, for staircases running in one flight with no bends or half landings. We do service and repair curved stairlifts of any make if you already have one.
How long does it take to fit a rented stairlift?
Most straight stairlift installations take around two hours. The stairlift fixes to the stair treads rather than the wall, so there is no structural work and nothing to make good afterwards.
What happens at the end of the rental?
We collect the stairlift at no extra charge. Because it fixes to the treads rather than the wall, your staircase is left as it was.
Can I speak to someone before choosing a rental stairlift?
Yes, speaking to our experienced team can help choose the most suitable option for the home. Get in touch via our contact page to get through to someone right away.
