STAIRLIFT REPAIRS In Plymouth & South DEVON
Any Make. Any Model. Any age
Common faults we see
It has stopped halfway up the stairs
Usually an obstruction on the rail, a safety sensor that has tripped, or a worn charging contact. Often fixable on the spot. Do not force it, and do not try to move someone off it on the stairs.
It beeps and will not move
Nearly always a charging fault. Either the stairlift is not parked properly on its charging point, or the batteries have reached the end of their life. Batteries typically last three to five years and we carry replacements.
It is slow, jerky or noisy
Generally a lubrication or wear issue on the rail or gearbox. Worth dealing with early, because a stairlift that is starting to labour will usually fail completely before long, and normally at the worst moment.
The seat or footrest will not swivel or fold
Sometimes a mechanical fault, sometimes a safety switch that has failed. Either way it makes getting on and off difficult, which is when accidents happen, so it is worth a call.
The remote or call station does not work
Often batteries or a pairing fault, occasionally a receiver failure. Quick to diagnose.
What it costs
We will give you a price before we start any work. If a repair is not economic on an older stairlift we will say so rather than take your money, and we will talk you through what a refurbished or rental replacement would cost instead.
A full service is £70, currently reduced from £85. Regular servicing is considerably cheaper than emergency repairs, and it catches most of the faults above before they leave someone stuck.
Curved stairlifts
We do not supply curved stairlifts, but we do service and repair them. If you have a curved stairlift that needs attention, we can help.
Emergency callouts
We operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. If someone cannot get upstairs to bed or downstairs to a bathroom, that is an emergency as far as we are concerned and we treat it as one. Care homes and settings where someone may be without access are prioritised.

Yes. AMS Group repair and service every make of stairlift, straight or curved, regardless of who originally installed it or how old it is.
My stairlift is beeping and will not move. What does that mean?
A beeping stairlift that will not move is nearly always a charging fault. Either the carriage is not parked on its charging point, or the batteries have reached the end of their life, typically after three to five years. We carry replacement batteries.

Do you repair curved stairlifts?
Yes. We do not supply curved stairlifts, but we service and repair curved stairlifts of any make.
